Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) - Floral Prism Light #2
This hand-made desk light contains one preserved specimen of Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), preserved in a solid obelisk-shaped prism of resin, underlit by a warm LED light embedded into the resin itself, and finally mounted within a base made of 3D printed wood PLA - a mixture of plant-based, biodegradable plastic and Poplar wood pulp. When turned on, the warm light bounces subtly off of the natural colors of the floral specimen and refracts through the obelisk shape to create a slight prism effect.
The genus name Achillea is derived from the Greek figure Achilles, who, according to Homer's Illiad, was taught how to use this healing herb on the fields of battle by the centaur Chiron. Yarrow, in fact, has been used utilized for it's wound-staunching properties across Eurasian cultures since antiquity. It's considered by many to be the quintessential herb of healers, and carrying or wearing this herb is said to confer protection.
The light measures approximately 102mm tall from tip to base and about 43mm wide at the base (4" by 1 11/16"). It is powered by two replaceable #CR2032 batteries and can be powered on and off via a twisting switch under the base. For your convenience, your order will include a replacement set of batteries.
The specimen has been dried thoroughly and coated in a UV resistant finish prior to being embedded in epoxy resin. The cap and findings are made of sturdy stainless steel.
The package will be carefully hand wrapped in bubble wrap, then wrapped with tissue paper and twine.
