This pendant contains one small sprig of Woody Nightshade (Solanum dulcamara), dried and preserved in a prism-shaped casing of glass-like resin and topped by earthy, patina'd electroplated copper.
Bittersweet Nightshade (Solanum dulcamara), otherwise known as Woody Nightshade. As the name "Nightshade" implies this brightly colored member of the tomato family is a common poisonous herb. During the Middle Ages of Europe, the herb was thought to be a strong protection against hexes, and garlands of the plant were often hung on doorways and around the necks of livestock to protect them.
This specimen has been pressed and coated with a UV resistant finish prior to being encapsulated in resin.
The pendant measures 54mm long by 33mm wide, and 20mm thick. This pendant is one of a kind and will be wrapped in tissue paper and hemp twine and come with a small tag stating the name of the species, stamped by hand and typed on a vintage typewriter.
