Violet (Viola sororia) - Small Copper Prism Necklace #2

$30.00 Sold Out

This pendant contains one small sprig of Violet (Viola sororia), dried and preserved in a prism-shaped casing of glass-like resin and topped by earthy, patina'd electroplated copper.

An incredibly iconic staple of spring in the US and the native range of this flower, the common lawn flower is considered to be a symbol of sapphic love; based on a poem by the Greek poet Sappho, who described herself and her lover as wearing garlands of the flower, it became a common practice especially among lesbian and bisexual women in the early 1900's to exchange the flowers with their lovers as a romantic gesture.

This specimen has been pressed and coated with a UV resistant finish prior to being encapsulated in resin.

The pendant measures 54mm long by 33mm wide, and 20mm thick. This pendant is one of a kind and will be wrapped in tissue paper and hemp twine and come with a small tag stating the name of the species, stamped by hand and typed on a vintage typewriter.

Please let me know at checkout if you have a necklace length preference! Otherwise I will include an 18" chain by default.
