Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis) fiddlehead - Large #1
This pendant contains one small young frond, or "fiddlehead" of Sensitive Fern (Onoclea sensibilis) dried thoroughly and preserved in a clear point of glass-like resin.
Most fern fronds unfurl in the early spring into this elaborate spiral shape known as a fiddlehead, a folk term for the structure's resemblance to the head of a violin. The species, "Sensitive Fern" is so named because of the species' shyness to frost and cold, making it a fern that only unfurls in the warmer months.
The specimen has been dried thoroughly and coated in a UV resistant finish prior to being embedded in epoxy resin. The cap and findings are made of sturdy stainless steel.
The pendant measures approximately 15mm wide by 75mm long.
This pendant is one of a kind and will be wrapped in a manner similar to the last photo in the listing and come with a small tag stating the name of the species, stamped by hand and typed on a vintage typewriter.
Please let me know at checkout if you have a necklace length preference! Otherwise I will include an 18" chain by default.
