This pendant contains one small sprig of Christmas Fern Fiddlehead (Polystichum acrostichoides), dried and preserved in a prism-shaped casing of glass-like resin and topped by earthy, patina'd electroplated copper.
Most fern fronds unfurl in the early spring into this elaborate spiral shape known as a fiddlehead, a folk term for the structure's resemblance to the head of a violin.
This specimen has been pressed and coated with a UV resistant finish prior to being encapsulated in resin.
The pendant measures 54mm long by 33mm wide, and 20mm thick. This pendant is one of a kind and will be wrapped in tissue paper and hemp twine and come with a small tag stating the name of the species, stamped by hand and typed on a vintage typewriter.
