Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) - Floral Prism Nightlight #2

$40.00 Sold Out

This hand-made desk light contains one preserved specimen of Black-Eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta), preserved in a solid obelisk-shaped prism of resin, underlit by a warm LED light embedded into the resin itself, and finally mounted within a base made of 3D printed wood PLA - a mixture of plant-based, biodegradable plastic and Poplar wood pulp. When turned on, the warm light bounces subtly off of the natural colors of the floral specimen and refracts through the obelisk shape to create a slight prism effect.

A native of North America, the iconic Black-Eyed Susan, with it's distinctive sunflower-like visage and striking black center, is a popular addition to summer gardens, partially for it's propensity for attracting butterflies. It is closely related to the medicinal plant Echinacea and is still used for the same purpose, to treat colds and fevers. Notably, Black-Eyed Susan is also the state flower in Maryland, and is highly celebrated in that state.

The light measures approximately 102mm tall from tip to base and about 43mm wide at the base (4" by 1 11/16"). It is powered by two replaceable #CR2032 batteries and can be powered on and off via a twisting switch under the base. For your convenience, your order will include a replacement set of batteries.

The specimen has been dried thoroughly and coated in a UV resistant finish prior to being embedded in epoxy resin. The cap and findings are made of sturdy stainless steel.

The package will be carefully hand wrapped in bubble wrap, then wrapped with tissue paper and twine.
